Maurice Symes (NZ)

Maurice started playing bowls in 1969 at the age of 24. He lives now in Blenheim on the South Island of New Zealand. He plays with the Taylor SR size 5 and the Greenmaster Premier size 5 and says: “Ever since I changed my bowls in 1988 to Taylor and Greenmaster models my game improved and through my success it has proved to others how good the Taylor bowls are.”
Currently, Maurice is a Marlborough Representative Player as well as a New Zealand accredited Coach. He is the CEO of Bowls Marlborough as well as being a contract bowls greenkeeper. He is an agent for Hunter Bowls and Ken Brown (Bowls Specialist) for both the Taylor and Greenmaster brand.
Are there any particular stories/incidents you would like to tell us about that relate to your bowling?
When playing in the commonwealth games in New Zealand in 1990 I roomed with Rowan Brassey my pairs lead and snored so much my wife sent him ear plugs to help him sleep. He used them each time we were roommates over the next ten years. He even mentions it in his book.
In the bowling world who do you most admire and why?
I admire all bowlers and administrators for trying to make sure our beautiful game remains alive. I help disabled, blind and school children to play and get the enjoyment from the game that has given me so much pleasure.
Do you have a favourite – film, book, song football team, actor, etc? It can be more than one if you like.
NZ All Blacks, Roger Federer, Manchester United, I am a sports fanatic!
Bowling Achievements:
Maurice has achieved many bowling awards too numerous to mention, so we will summaries by saying:
